My name
is Tom Gengler. The inventors of the Kingstand asked me to use one of
their prototypes to give them some feedback on the product. I am in the
construction business and it looked like something that would be handy for
me. I used it for my mitre box saw. It was the best stand that I have ever
used. I currently have a Dewalt mitre saw stand & it doesn’t even compare
to the Kingstand as far as I’m concerned. With the Dewalt stand, all I
could do is cut dimensional lumber on it and very little else. With the
Kingstand I could cut everything from dimensional lumber to millwork to
shelving. Not only that, I could also use it to sand custom millwork that
I made myself for different things. I could drill holes and assemble
handrails, cope base and shoe( ¼ round) with the greatest of ease.
The extra adjustable shelf came in really handy for my sanders and jigsaws
as well as various hand tools that I use. It takes up very little room in
my truck so it is easy to pack all the tools I carry without have things
in my back seat. I had several comments on it from other subcontractors at
how they could use one in their business also as well as using it around
their homes for other things.
I used at
my home next to my barbeque grill when I had a family reunion at my house
this past June. I had all my family up from Iowa and we had a outdoor cook
out and I was able to stage all the food that was to be grilled on one
wing & then I had all the paper plates & plastic utensils on the other
wing. The center shelf came in handy to set the grilling utensils on it.
When I was done, all I had to do to clean it was use the hose to rinse it
off and wipe it dry.
I also
own a cabin in Wisconsin were I do a lot of fishing and hunting at. I
brought the Kingstand up there with me since it is so compact and
portable, I had plenty of room in my truck for it as I carry a lot of
things from my main residence to the cabin to use for the weekends up
there. When I came in from a day of fishing, I set up the Kingstand to
clean my fish on it. It worked great. I set a big bowl of water on the
center shelf to toss the cleaned fillets into & I had set a pail on the
center shelf to toss the remains into. When I was done, I got a pail
of soap & water with a soft scrub brush, wet it down with the hose,
scrubed it off with the brush, and hosed off the soap and wiped it dry
with some paper towels. The rest of it I let air dry over night.
I really
enjoyed using the Kingstand table and I can’t wait to have one of my own
to use. It really came in handy. I showed it to a few of my neighbors and
thought it was a cool product and that they would like to have one also to
use. When I have one, I know I will find plenty of other uses for it also
as I am always doing different projects around the house and for my
friends.

The StandAlone boys asked
if we could put their stand to the test for a couple of months. As
remodeling contractors we do it all, framing, siding and trim carpentry.
Really all I want to know is how soon are we going to be able to get a
couple.
The first thing I liked
right off was that the stand was at a very comfortable working height and
that I wasn’t bending over every time I made a cut, unlike every sawhorse
type stand I have used or seen and I could see what I was doing a lot
better. The second was with the solid surface wing every time I cut apiece
I didn’t have to bend over and pick the other piece up off the ground or
floor. Huge!! Saved my back big time!! If we were framing and I was
cutting several small pieces like window or door cripples, I could stack
them on the back of the wing and that worked the same whether we were
framing siding or trimming. The stand had no trouble handling 12`, 14` or
even 16 foot material whether it was 2 x 4s, sixes, eights or tens at all.
We even cut some LVLs on it. Doing most of the cutting most
times, I did not even have to wear an apron,
because there is plenty of room on the stand for my tape, hammer, square
and with the center shelf, how cool is that! I had room for other
small hand tools. We velcroed a six-way outlet to the center plate
and carried that separatly but it is so flat that it fits anywhere. The
guys said they were coming out with an outlet plug fixed in the center
plate soon.
Folds to six inches,
opens and closes in what seemed like seconds, took up hardly any space in
the back of the truck. Kingstand is definitely a winner as far as we
think. I hope I have one in the back of my truck again soon!

I am a general contractor and have had several experiences with KingStand
that I would like to share.
KingStand, like most useful inventions, was created because nothing in the
marketplace met the requirements of the user. It took a creative
carpenter in the field with years of building experience to create a
toolstand for himself that did what no other stand could do. It was
portable, allowing it to easily move it from place to place. It was
versatile, providing precious countertop space and undercounter storage to
keep many tools within arm’s reach. It was higher than most stands,
relieving bending and back stress making it egonomically superior to other
stands. Many other carpenters saw the stand and wanted one for
themselves. Over time, the idea of commerically producing it became
an obession.
KingStand went through many iterations and improvements from the initial
design. It was demonstrated to many tradespeople, shown to the
public at state fairs, and tested by many carpenters in the field.
What KingStand is today is the best of many the ideas and suggestions
incorporated into one stand. I had the opportunity to see the
orginal KingStand at work in the field. The finish carpenters relied
on it to cut their trim on it, use the surface to sand and fine tune their
cuts and were able to easily move the stand from place to place.
Their productivity was greatly increased using the stand. From time
to time I found myself asking the carpenters if I could use it myself.
Each time I wondered how they ever got along without it. I was a
fan.
It wasn’t much longer than they asked me to test a prototype. I was
finishing my basement and was excited to accept. The first thing I
noticed was that the new stand was completely collapsable. It was
much lighter than the original one the guys on the jobsite were using.
I was amazed how fast it was to set up and easy it was to move around the
job. The support wings had a larger surface which provided a more
work space. It also easily accommodated many different sizes and
types of tools. While it was the original one was designed for a
particular brand of miterbox, the new prototype accepted most any brand
with it’s adjustable center table. I also used it as a planer stand.
The wings of the KingStand acted as long infeed and outfeed tables.
The wheels locked so the table didn’t move when I ran the wood through the
planer. When I tiled my bath shower, I put my tub saw on the
Kingstand, the side wings gave me plenty of room to hold the tile and the
center table easily held my tub saw. When I was done I simply hosed
it off and I was ready for the next job. Because the side wings on
the table drop to the side I used KingStand as a portable workbench.
When it came time to install the door hardware, I stacked the doorknobs
and tools on the center table and rolled the KingStand from door to door.
It gave me a portable workspace at a convenient height with no bending.
So now that the KingStand is going to be commericially available, I can’t
wait to get my hands on one … or more!
Thanks,
Mark
